This March, the Somerset and Dorset Railway at Midsomer Norton are running some Driver Experience sessions. This gives you the chance of a lifetime to drive one of the railways steam locomotives!

The experience sessions will give you the opportunity to drive and fire a steam locomotive, as well as acting as a guard on the iconic Somerset and Dorset Railway.

You will be given an introduction to the SDR (its history, closure, and reopening), a tour of the site and a safety briefing.

You will then climb on the footplate to learn how to fire and drive a type of locomotive that once ran up and down the line.

Additionally, you will learn the skills needed to be a guard on the train, including the safe descent of the line.

How much does the driver experience at the Somerset and Dorset Railway cost?

The experience session costs £250.

Included in the cost of the half day experience is:

  • Meal in the static dining car
  • Year membership of the S&D Railway Heritage Trust
  • Commemorative certificate
  • Driving and firing a locomotive
  • Act as a guard

There are only a few spaces left. So book now if you want to take part on Thursday 22nd March 2018.
