Passengers traveling on the Caledonian Sleeper in November were treated to an Opera performance as they traveled between London and Aberdeen.

Scotlands SoundFestival and Tête à Tête: the Opera Festival co-commissioned the performance.

Items of luggage were the inspiration for the performance. The overnight service’s lounge was the location for the performance.

Belongings formed part of the focus on contemporary opera including a series of pop-up performances in unusual places.

What did the officials say about the opera?

Fiona Robertson, festival director at sound said: “Taking music out of the concert hall and into different places is part of sound’s ethos. By encountering the performances in places such as we hope people will feel more at ease than in the traditional concert hall.”

Ryan Flaherty, Serco’s guest experience director at Caledonian Sleeper, added: “The premiere performance of Belongings was very popular. We  have decided to give guests a second chance to experience the musical treat. The piece is extremely apt for Caledonian Sleeper. It brings alive the magic of train travel. We hope that our guests enjoyed the performance. We look forward to bringing more events on board next year.”
