The first gala for the East Lancashire Railway of the 2017 Calendar was the Spring Diesel Gala which was held from the 18th-19th February.
The event saw 10 Locomotives in action across the 12 mile railway which runs from Heywood to Rawtenstall via Bury Bolton Street, Burrs Country Park and Caravan Site, Summerseat, Ramsbottom and Irwell Vale.

All in all, 10 Locomotives operated at the Spring Diesel Gala, which are:

- EWS Class 31 No. 31466
- BR Class 33 No. 33109 ‘Captain Bill Smith’
- BR Class 37 No. 37109
- BR Class 40 No. 40145 ‘East Lancashire Railway’
- BR Class 45 No. 45108
- BR Class 47 No. D1501
- BR Class 50 No. 50015 ‘Valiant’
- BR Class 73 No. 73001

We visited a new filming point at Townsend Fold Crossing, and the other filming locations are:

- Irwell Vale Crossing
- Ramsbottom Bridge
- Ramsbottom Station
- Summerseat Viaduct
- Summerseat Station
This video was filmed on a Panasonic VXF990 with a Rode Video Micro, and we also tried out our new Maxtek 4K Action Camera (£29.99 from Aldi!)
