As you may know, the main line between Blaenau Ffestiniog and Trawsfynydd has not been used since 1998.
Permission has been given by Network Rail, for The Trawsfynydd & Blaenau Ffestiniog Railway Company to access the disused line, and begin some preliminary clearance work.
The line has now become very overgrown. This last weekend a small group of volunteers began the task of clearing a few hundred metres. Once this has been completed a proper assessment of the track and infrastructure can take place.
The Trawsfynydd & Blaenau Ffestiniog Railway Company hope that it will one day be possible to re-open the line.
Network Rail told the BBC ” we are pleased to be working with the collective aim of regenerating the disused railway land”. Colin Dale, of the Trawsfynydd and Blaenau Ffestiniog community railway company told the BBC “What we have got is a licence so that we can go in there and clear it and survey the state of the bridges and viaducts”
